Job Description:

PATH is home to the Malaria Control and Evaluation Partnership in Africa (MACEPA) which works closely with National Malaria Control programs in Africa to strengthen data systems and data use to better inform strategies and targeting of resources to reduce burden. Key components of this work are to generate evidence on novel and existing malaria tools to guide decision-makers, and to work with donors to ensure the resources needed to implement these interventions are available.

We seek to hire a Senior Program Officer for MACEPA-V project who will be based at Addis Ababa within the PATH Ethiopia Country Office. He will be responsible for providing technical support with the main objective of transitioning project’s works to the national malaria program i.e. by making strong efforts towards supporting the overall national anti-malaria response and assisting in capacity building activities of the national program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance and support to the NMEP in malaria control activities, DQA implementation, and community case management including their documentation.
  • Support capacity building of the national malaria program on data analytics and visualization.
  • Contributes to malaria surveillance activities and elimination efforts as directed by the NMEP. Review weekly epidemiological and routine malaria data and provide feedback.
  • Advocate malaria elimination to align with NMEP goals.
  • Support the development of a roadmap to support ACT diversification in Ethiopia.
  • Support the development of annual work plans and budgeting for activities in Ethiopia.
  • Lead monitoring and evaluation activities of the project with MOH, partners, and other government agencies.
  • Participate in operational studies that may be conducted by the project.
  • Monitor program outcomes and ensure deliverables are met as specified in the grant.
  • Prepare and disseminate periodic progress and travel reports (with expenses) to all appropriate levels, including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute and participate in national and subnational surveys.
  • Support MOH/NMEP in the implementation of sub-national tailoring activities.
  • Contribute to malaria performance review and national strategic plan development.
  • Develop materials and provide necessary training and support to NMEP as required.
  • Represent PATH at relevant platforms including TWGs, seminars, workshops, and other events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor to meet the needs of the organization.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health or Epidemiology or Health Information System.
  • At least 3 years of experience in malaria required.
  • Experience in malaria programming within national or regional programs will be considered.
  • Proven track record of health data management and analysis.
  • Proven track record of malaria prevention, control and elimination are also required.
  • Experience in disease surveillance program.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook are required, and familiarity with DHIS2 and mapping software is preferred. 
  • Highly organized, flexible, and adaptable to changing priorities and ability to work well under deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in Amharic and English required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; experience in facilitating training highly desired.
