Consultancy Services to Re-Build Excel Database

Vita/RTI-Ethiopia is an Irish non-profit organization working on providing sustainable water and energy in Ethiopia. In partnership with regional, zonal and woreda level government offices Vita is currently implementing a large scale rural Improved Cook Stove (ICS) programme in Gamo and Gofa Zone. This programme will distribute over 200,000 improved cook stoves to 150 Kebeles within these two zones. The overall aim is to eliminate cooking with three-stone open fires (sost-gulicha) in these Kebeles.

These programmes are expected to generate a high volume of data and Vita has realized that manual database management system is less efficient and less flexible than a computerized database. In this regard, the organization has developed an excel database that tracks the status of the ICS project. As a data source there are different types of survey data collected weekly using a digital data collection tool known as Kobo Toolbox. Those responses on our Kobo Server are extracted into XLS format to manually update the database on a weekly basis. The database is pushed to a SharePoint site for the purpose of sharing among the staff based in different locations. However, the organization encountered challenges due to the low performance of the database. On this matter, the Organization intends to solve the issue through hiring external consultant.

Hence, the organization would like to invite knowledgeable and well experienced individual consultant who fulfils the following minimum requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. Master's degree in a related field is a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in database design, administration, optimization, and performance tuning.
• Experience of at least three similar type of consultant contracts
• Microsoft Excel Certification that verifies professional competency in advanced Excel formulas and VBA Programming.
• Strong communication skills to explain their work and show how to use the workflows they’ve created.
• Strong collaboration skills to work closely and effectively with technical as well as non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex database issues and implement effective solutions.
• Experience of using Kobo Toolbox is desirable.
