Job Description:
The German Leprosy Association (GLRA) –Ethiopia in collaboration with the MoH and the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) has been conducting a research project entitled “Chemoprophylaxis for leprosy: comparing the effectiveness and feasibility of a skin camp intervention to a health center based intervention: An implementation trial in Mozambique, Ethiopia and Tanzania.”
The aim of the project is to contribute to interrupting the transmission of Mycobacterium leprae by identifying the most effective and feasible method of screening people at risk of developing leprosy and administering chemoprophylaxis in Ethiopia, Mozambique and Tanzania. The study site in Ethiopia is East Hararghe zone, Oromiya region.

Job Summary 
 To coordinate field research activities that include community engagement, organizing training, skin camps, communicate with zone and Woreda health and administrative offices, data collection, data entry, reporting and related tasks.

Specifics roles and responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and participates in the overall activities of the PEP4LEP which will be implemented in Jarso, Midega, and Girawa districts.
  • Works in close collaboration with East Hararge ZHD, District Health Offices & their respective PHCUs, PEP4LEP task force (ORHB, NTP, AHRI, GLRA Ethiopia team) and other stake holders.
  • Co-operates & works with the PEP4LEP Project Manager & GLRA Ethiopia staffs.
  • Keeps networking with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
  • Organizes and provides training in collaboration with the ZHD, district health offices & GLRA team.
  • Facilitating and conducting review meetings & timely submitting its reports to EDCTP/PEP4LEP Project Manager/ GLRA Ethiopia.
  • Identifies/facilitates the supply of necessary logistics for the implementation of skin camps & HC-based approaches in collaboration with the ZHD, District health offices & GLRA team.
  • Coordinates and facilitates skin camp in each project site   
  • Ensures availability of all necessary data collection tools in the project Districts.
  • Responsible for identifying the Project implementation gaps timely, develops corrective actions and intervenes accordingly by working with the project teams.
  • Recruiting study participants and working to sustain their retention in the study.
  • Conducting and ensuring informed consent interview.
  • Keeps and ensures the privacy and confidentiality of study participants.
  • Identifying and reporting Adverse Events (ADEs) if any.
  • Stays updated on all implementation issues in the fields of Post Exposure Prophylaxis for Leprosy (PEP4LEP) project of East Hararge Zone.
  • Follows and implements the decisions of PEP4LEP task force, and report the implementation status to GLRA-Ethiopia.
  • Follows & ensures proper utilization of project resources & report it to GLRA-Ethiopia.
  • Collects data from the field, Districts & PHCUs by ensuring the quality of data (completeness, accuracy & timeliness) and submit on time per the site standard 
  • Collecting and compiling project activities, and reporting them to GLRA-Ethiopia.
  • Entering data into computer using different tools when found to be necessary.
  • Regularly monitors/supervises the project implementation sites in collaboration with ZHD, District Health Offices & PHCUs.
  • Compiles, analyzes and reports lessons learned, challenges & gaps encountered with the corrective actions taken & recommendations.
  • Undertakes any other tasks/duties as directed by the employer.

Job Requirements:
Qualification:
  • MSc in Biomedical science or MPH with BSc in Nursing or Health officer or other related clinical backgrounds.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience after MSC or MPH
  • Experience in conducting and coordinating field work related in health research
  • Prior NGO experience is a plus(adds value)
  • High competency in English
  • Knowledge of local language of the project sites is advantageous
  • Training in GCP/GCLP and quality control/assurance (preference)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skill
