Job Description:

Position:                                        Livelihood officer

Duty Station:                               Wayu Tuka (East Wollega Zone, Oromia region) 

Duration of Contract:               One-year contract, Renewable (with 60 working days probation period)

 Job Summary

Responsible for the overall coordination, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the livelihood and marketing activities of the Nature Positive Food Systems (NPFS) project to be implemented in Wayu Tuka Woreda according to the document signed between Food for the Hungry Ethiopia and the regional government based on the donor requirements.

Principal Responsibilities

Key Result #1- Planning activities    

1.     Involve in planning, implementation, budget management and reporting of livelihood and marketing components of the project;

2.     Prepare a quarterly procurement plan and timely request the purchase of materials related to livelihood and marketing related.

3.     Provide technical advice to the project manager in the area of livelihood and marketing activities during planning;

4.     Keep copies of all records regarding to payment and attendance lists related to livelihood and marketing activities;

5.     Gather and document project ideas related to livelihood and marketing and feed into the organizational planning processes.

Key Result #2 Program Implementation

6.     Ensure that livelihood and marketing activities implemented as per the nature+ design document annul plan;

7.     Ensure that all the community development workers actively involved on the livelihood and marketing activities are clearly aware the objectives of the livelihood and marketing component;

8.     Ensure that livelihood and marketing activities are properly implemented;

9.     Ensure gender, youth and social accountability activities are mainstreamed in livelihood and marketing components in consultation with gender officer.

Result #3 – Capacity Building Activities      

10.   Prepare training curricula and organizes training manuals for all the trainings under the livelihood and marketing component;

11.   Introduce the target community with better means of production, gives awareness creation trainings on the importance of improved seeds;

Key Result #4 – Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting    

12.   Based on the annual activity and budget plan, make regular field visit to beneficiary households and furnish monitoring reports to the AP manager for timely decision making;

13.   Prepare quality progress reports (monthly, quarterly and annual) and submit AP manager on the due date;

14.   Prepare case studies, most significant stories and best practices on livelihood and marketing activities and submit to the AP Manager and the West Region M&E Coordinator for documentation;

15.   Keep proper documentation of project proposals, periodic reports, agreements and other documents related to livelihood and marketing on soft copy and hard copy;

16.   Participate in project end line evaluation.

 Key Result #5- Networking

17.   Create linkage with other NGOs, relevant government agencies and the private sectors.

18.   Create close working relationships with woreda, kebele and community task forces and assist them in the process of setting up criteria for targeting and planning of activities at all levels.

Safeguarding Policy

Violations to stated policies will be subject to corrective action up to and including termination of employment.

Gender Responsibility

⮚  Be aware of the stereotypes about women’s and men’s capacities, and discuss how they influence staff, in assigning responsibility, and in managing resources at unit and organization level.

⮚  Be able to describe how gender issues relate to one’s job responsibilities and how gender equity can be promoted through the execution of those responsibilities.

⮚ Be familiar with the local Gender Focal Point(s), and go to her/him to learn more about gender issues, or when there is a gender grievance or harassment issue to resolve

⮚ Within each project and department, discuss FH’s Gender & Diversity and Sexual Harassment and sexual exploitation Policies, so that all staff are conversant with them.

⮚ Refrain from any comments or gestures that indicate prejudicial views of female staff, especially female supervisors.

⮚ In each Project and Head Office, ask women staff what changes would make it more “gender-friendly”, organization and implement the recommendations

Safety & Security Responsibility

⮚   Each FHE staff member should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security policy of FH. Lapses in safe conduct can jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff.

⮚ Every FHE staff member has an obligation to learn and understand the security situation where they are located. 

⮚ Each FHE staff member should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security.  This includes, but not limited to, personal safety, road safety, etc.

⮚  Has a responsibility to become familiar to social, cultural and other associated features of their duty stations;

⮚  Abstain from inappropriate or offensive behavior that can put FHE in a difficult position, impair operations, and jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff of FHE.

⮚ All FHE staff should promotes safe conducts and exercises caution in all work activities; staff should accountable for own personal and professional actions and conduct;

Experience

⮚ 3 years related experience in a relevant position Preferably in INGO Setting

Education/Certifications

⮚  BSc in agriculture, agricultural economics or relevant field of study.

Distinguishing Competencies

⮚  Strong computer skill and knowledge in the area of MS word, MS Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint and email communication.

⮚ High level of initiative taking.

Language

⮚ Proficiency in both spoken and written English. Ability to write reports and knowledge of local language is mandatory.
