Job Description:

CEFA (European Committee for Training and Agriculture) is a Non-Government Organisation whose headquarter is in Bologna, Italy. CEFA works in North/East Africa and Latin America with international donors, mainly in the following activities: 1) Rural economy with production, transformation and commercialization of agricultural products; 2) Crafting products; 3) Basic infrastructures to guarantee water access, requalification and environment protection of the territory and the use of renewable energies; 4) Technical and Management training. In Ethiopia CEFA is registered since April 2018.

The aim of the project is to support small farmers and to create opportunities for decent work and access to income for women in rural areas.

ABOUT THE ROLE

CEFA is looking for a motivated Agronomist coordinator to support small farmers and cooperatives in the development of new productive activities. The Agronomist Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all project activities conducted by the Agri-team, to this end, the selected candidate will oversee and plan the activities in the Agricultural sector, supervise Field Agents based at the project area and coordinating with the other sectors all activities related to Project implementation. The coordinator will play a role to the timely and efficient delivery of project activities, The coordinator will work in Wolisso with weekly visits in the targeted Woredas and Kebeles, under the supervision of the Consortium Project Manager.

 

Role and Responsibility:

All the following tasks will be carried out in collaboration and under the supervision of the CEFA’s PM.

·         Coordination, coaching and support for the field agents working in the four targeted Woredas;

·         Liaising with related government counterparts and other stakeholders

•         Assistance and technical support to small farmers and to cooperatives or groups;

•         Production, monitoring and logistics of reinforcement plan for each group;

•         Animation of focus group and interviews with the cooperatives members;

•         Supporting the beneficiaries with constant monitoring of the progress of the AGRs and the learning of the concepts transmitted during the training sessions, with ready problem solving interventions and group motivation;

•         Monitoring and logistics of trainings for beneficiaries;

•         Plan, follow and monitor the inputs distribution;

•         Supporting and overseeing the implementation of activities such as meetings, workshops and trainings;

•         Collection of documentation and information (report, attendance list, photo, material, etc.);

•         Creating and managing weekly and monthly plans, work schedules, organizing routes for field visits conducted by Field Agents;

 

•         Regularly collecting weekly updates and monthly project progress report from Field Agents and sharing to PM adding his/her contributions

•         Plan monthly activities and prepare TORs and budget requests and share for PM for review and/or approval

•         Oversee all the activities and budget utilization of each activity

•         Provide technical support for field agents, government experts, cooperatives and women self-help group

•         Develop strong and smooth relationship with relevant zonal level government sector offices

•         Manage relations with local stakeholders, in particular with the relevant authorities;

•         Coordination and close collaboration with the Head Quarter in Addis Ababa and the project team;

•         Participation in periodic meetings with the project team, partners and stakeholders

•         Plan, organize and facilitate formal trainings and workshops, and on job training for FAs and stakeholders

•         Visiting project sites to observe the work to be performed by self-help women group;

•         Ensure all field agents are based at their location and implementing their roles and responsibilities in their respective woredas

•         Keeping regular contacts with local authorities and implementing partners as needed.

•         Ensure that agriculture activities are integrated with nutrition and child protection activities 

•         Updating the Agri-team on any changes to the project implementation plan;

•         Any other activity necessary for carrying out the project activities as indicated by the project proposal and the timetable.


 

 

Job Requirements:

• A minimum of a B.Sc. degree in agriculture; Plant science, Agronomy, Crop science and related fields 

• Specific education on food security, cooperatives and value chains will be considered as an added value.

• A minimum of five-year work experience on the field of which at least two years as coordinator on similar sector 

Fluent in English and local language

•         Ability and willingness to fill knowledge gaps as needed

•         Good English writing skills

•         High levels of energy, initiative and flexibility in quickly adjusting to changing work program requirements.

•         Proven team work and coordination experience

•         Excellent knowledge of the context of intervention

•         Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel and Internet

•         Flexibility to work both in a team and independently;

•         Strong team building and networking skills

•         Proven ability to meet deadlines and operate effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

•         Valid motorcycle driving skill and license is preferable

•         Ability to communicate clearly, identify and analyse key points, present complex issues in an understandable and concise manner, provide solutions, objectively evaluate alternatives, and make decisive, rational, grounded and compromise decisions considering the consequences of decisions
