 Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia (HFHE) started operation in 1993 as a branch of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). HFHE has provided simple, affordable shelter for families in Ethiopia while also working to improve Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and empower Vulnerable Groups in the country.

JOB SUMMARY

The Driver is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the assigned HFHE vehicle(s) as per technical guidance and specifications established by the organization. He/she is required to follow strict instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor. While basic function of a Driver is to drive the official vehicles of HFHE, he/she may be called upon to perform minor maintenance and repair of HFHE vehicles.

Duties and Responsibility

  •  Drive HFHE vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers and delivery and collection of mail, documents, HFHE pouch and other items.
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles; check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc. and ensure that the assigned HFHE vehicles are road worthy and maintained up to the established security standards.
  • Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident.
  • Operate the vehicle in manner consistent with responsible practices that avoid abuse, theft neglect, or disrespect of the equipment. Wear seat belt at all times & ensure passenger do the same.
  • Make sure that the daily log sheet is prepared, and monthly report is prepared summarizing Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc
  • Assists in purchasing processes with the National office.
  • Arrange for minor repairs and ensures that the vehicles are kept clean.
  • Ensure that the vehicle undertake regular service intervals.
  • Operate the vehicle in manner consistent with responsible practices that avoid abuse, theft neglect, or disrespect of the equipment wear seat belt at all times & ensure passenger do the same.
  • Ensure that all safety tools and accessories such as First aid kit, spare tyer, jack and handle are available in the vehicles and any missing tool must be reported immediately to the supervisor

Terms of Employment - Two-year possibility of extension based on fund availability

 Essential Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  •  Completion of Grade 10th or 12th with minimum 2 years of relevant working experience preferably in NGO is an advantage.
  • Valid national driver’s license of Category D1 and P1 or level Grade 3 with the ability to drive automobiles up to 8 seats.
  • Good command of Speaking, writing listening and reading skills.
  • Possession of a Mechanical certificate from an accredited school is advantageous.
  • Certificate of good conduct from the police (required if selected).
  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles.
  • Good knowledge of routes within and around the duty station.
