 TEAM PURPOSE:

 The Gender Justice program in Oxfam is a full-fledged program and employs two strategies: gender mainstreaming across Oxfam’s five other programs and implementing standalone gender projects including research.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Research project coordinator will engage in managing the Research project and is responsible to ensure the quality of the research and good integration with the partner and other stakeholders.

Technical responsibilities

  • Lead the overall Research project implementation and manages through project management cycles (qualitative research)
  • Ensure the quality of the qualitative research planning, implementation, data collection and analysis as per the research protocol together with the consultant
  • Actively participate in hiring a research consultant and engage with them on the designing of a strong research protocol
  • Coordinate with the partner organization research team as one research project
  • Manages the technical and financial procedures of the Research project
  • Engages closely with the gender program team, provides project updates and will be accountable to the project under his/her mandate
  • Collaborate with country finance and logistics support functions in facilitating effective and efficient research project operation
  • Work closely with the MEAL department and the program Quality team in organizing joint follow-up and monitoring meetings, review sessions, knowledge management, and learning
  • Work in collaboration with the Knowledge management and learning Coordinator to maintain research evaluation and learning repositories and ongoing gathering of qualitative information, success stories, case studies, lessons learnt and other relevant information, ensuring that they are appropriately recorded and shared with others as deemed important
  • Ensure the project is effectively and efficiently implemented as per the Donor compliance and develop high-level reports based on templates
  • Perform other work-related activities as requested by the Gender Programme Manager and provide support to Oxfam’s objectives as requested
  • Collaborate with the gender program team to build the capacity of Oxfam staff, partners, and stakeholders as per her/his areas of expertise and as planned by the gender justice program
  • Understand and commit to adhering to Oxfam’s equity, diversity, gender parity, child safety, staff health, well-being, policies and principles
  • Engage with the country safeguarding team on ensuring gender-sensitive and safe program approaches within the project s/he is managing and within the organization 

Networking and Coordination

  • Liaise with a research team hired by the partner organization and coordinate the project with them
  • Jointly engage with other program teams and program quality department to ensure quality interventions and monitoring works and support knowledge sharing on research-related gender works
  • Attend conferences and seminars as directed by the Gender Program Manager

SKILS, Experience, Knowledge & Competencies

Essential

  • Bachelor (BA) or MA Degree from a recognized university/college in the field of Demography, Statistics, Economics, Gender Studies, sociology, social work, and other related fields 
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience on research projects 
  • Experience in conducting qualitative research tools and techniques
  • Experience in managing research projects with minimum supervision or good knowledge of how to do research
  • Excellent Organizational Skills, good partnership, networking, and alliance-building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal, compassion, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a multicultural team
  • Experience working with local and international CSO partners and government stakeholders
  • Able to provide advice, training, and other support to various teams
  • Willingness to travel to fields on a regular basis
  • Competent in the use of computers and Microsoft applications, the latest qualitative research applications, etc. 

Desirable

  • Assertive with good judgment over issues

  • Proven ability to work independently whilst knowing when to refer for advice
  • A minimum of 2 years of work engagement in an NGO experience in Ethiopia is considered an advantage
