Field Researcher

This is an external vacancy announcement from Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) Hub for Research and Training in Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda). The GEOHealth Hub is a research and training platform centered at Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences, School of Public Health that was established with grant support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the United States of America in School of Public Health, Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences. The project focuses on air pollution and health, occupational safety and health, climate change, and Health research. The School of Public Health at Addis Ababa University College of Health Sciences wants to hire, on a contract basis, a professional in the following job position for GEOHealth project.

The field researcher will be involved in data collection, management, and quality assurance of The GEOHealth research themes. He/She will be accountable to the GEOHealth Project Research Administrator.

 Job description

• Conduct outdoor and household air pollution monitoring
• Collect data either through electronic or manual ways.
• Management of air pollution monitoring sites
• Coordinating longitudinal hospital data collection with assigned hospital contact staff
• Work closely with the research administrator and other field researchers
• Compile field research reports periodically and report them to the Research Administrator timely
• Ensure data quality assurance at all levels of the GEOHealth research
• Keep the confidentiality of the collected data and not use it other than for the intended purpose
• Work on any related assignment about GEOHealth research activities
• Communicate with partners effectively through pertinent media of communication such as Email and regular Skype calls as appropriate

Duration and condition of Employment: One year with the possibility of extension to another year based on performance, Project period, and budget availability

Monthly Salary: Attractive, negotiable.; subjected to tax based on Ethiopian tax regulation.

Qualification & required skills

• BSc in Environmental Health or related Health Science fields is preferred
• BSC with at least two years of field research experience (desirable)
• MPH with at least one year of field research experience
• Experience with environmental health research
• Experience with hospital data collection and household air pollution training and monitoring
• Excellent communication skills in the medium of English
• Computer skills required
• Skills in statistical software
