Job Summary

The main responsibilities of the position holder will be implementing standardized GBV prevention interventions aimed at reducing GBV risks and addressing the deeper causes associated with those risks through community engagement, identification , outreach and awareness raising activities and response domains that includes the full range of services provided to survivors of GBV in order to improve their well-being and help them deal with the incident, including case management and mitigate further GBV risks. As survivors of gender-based violence tend to have multiple needs, the GBV prevention and response Officer will encourage smooth communication, collaboration and coordination among partners from the protection, health, legal, and psychosocial sectors committed to reducing the incidence of violence against women through established referral pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support and care to adult survivors of GBV and age-appropriate specialized services for adolescent, male and girl child survivors of GBV through appropriate case management services.
  • Responsible for the overall implementation of GBV mitigation and prevention activity and work closely with community representative and other protection actors to aware the community about GBV in the target areas.
  • Observe and monitor integration of GBV guiding principles of respect, confidentiality, and safety/security and non- discrimination while providing GBV prevention and response services to the affected population
  • Be able to develop and roll-out GBV activity standard operating procedures to improve quality of implementation
  • Ensure proper documentation of reported GBV incidences in line with case management procedures and tools.
  • Ensure safe and ethical GBV data collection and sharing based on agreed procedures and protocols.
  • Conduct periodic survivor/client service satisfaction survey to determine the quality of services received by the survivors during case management processes.
  • Support in reviewing approaches and methodologies used in GBV prevention and response to be adapted to the relevant context in time.
  • Ensure there is timely feedback and response to the concerns of the affected population.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop, strengthen and regularly update referral networks and monitor the functioning and capabilities of the existing referral pathways to improve access to quality and reliable services to GBV survivors.
  • Support in integrating GBV mainstreaming into the organization’s multi-sectoral program
  • Actively participate in GBV coordination or working group and provide systematic GBV trends.
  • Promote a survivor centered approach (respect wishes, decisions of survivors) while implementing GBV programing
  • In consultations with GBV officer, develop and implement/ share monthly response plan and GBV key messages/issues based on case trends to disseminate information on services available and referral pathways;
  • Engage community members and structures including Men, boys, women and girls to design participatory strategies and actions to prevent GBV in the community.
  • Mobilize and engage community members, structures and partners in   prevention and response events in the targeted populations including discussions, trainings etc;
  • Work together with MHPSS officers, Child protection officers and MMU health workers ensuring holistic and timely services for GBV survivors.
  • Ensuring on time and multi-disciplinary services for SGBV survivors linking to one stop center , safe houses by facilitating transportations.
  • Supervise and support the day-to-day activities including case management/psychosocial support, follow-up and advocacy to meet beneficiaries’ needs, community mobilization to prevent GBV risks, build community capacity to prevent and respond to GBV incidents.
  • Conduct regular meetings with team members and community members to assess progress toward GBV program objectives, discuss issues and assist in finding solutions to challenges identified
  • Prepare and submit weekly & monthly reports as required and incorporate supervisors’ feedback in a timely manner, including information related to survivor non-identifying data, treatment provided, follow up visits, drugs availability, referrals to other service providers and awareness activities conducted etc.
  • Participate in the development of procurement and spending plans and work plans to ensure the successful implementation of programs
  • Ensure supplies/resources are requested on a timely manner for timely implementation of program activities including manage/prepare contingency program stock supplies where necessary.
  • Ensure tracking of key program indicators and progress through utilization of the M&E data collection and indicator tracking tools.

Education / Experience Needed

·       Bachelor of Arts or Science in Social Science, Public Health, Humanities or other related field, desirable

·       Counseling and training experience, including at least two years of experience counseling survivors of abuse or violence

·       Clear understanding of gender, human rights, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls

·       Demonstrated understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients

·       Knowledge and experience with community outreach and mobilization

·       Experience facilitating trainings and workshops and mentoring others

·       Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting

·       Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail

·       Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel

Language

·       Amharic, required

·       English, required

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written or schedule form.
