The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of Logistics Assisstant 1, (12 months fixed term contract) based in Addis Ababa.

General Duties

  • • Understands and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • • Understands and adheres to the ICRC Code of Conduct
  • • Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • • Respects and observes staff regulations and security rules at all times
  • • Represents the ICRC in a professional manner at all times
  • • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers
  • • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC
  • • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary and requested.

  Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • • Provides support in accordance with logistics standards, ICRC rules, financial procedures and regulations. This may include some or all of the following activities:
  • • Meetings with internal and external customers and different offices for assigned general logistics activities.  Follow-up and statistical reporting using the JDE/IRIS application
  • • Work on document preparation of convoy movements and related activities including archiving.
  • • Work as information management focal person in relation to logistics operations. And handle biweekly new staff briefings.
  • • Timely and proper filing and archiving of documents while special attention to confidential documents if there is any.
  • • Performs logistics data collection, entry, analysis, and reporting in collaboration with logistics country manager
  • • Manage the logistics information system (JDE/IRIS), handle logistics sustainable projects/programs.
  • • Will cover any requested general logistics activities, filed mission/movement, replacing other logistics staffs and related duties and responsibilities when required.

Scope and Impact:

  • • Assigned logistics assistant will be responsible for all general logistics operations in ET Addis Ababa delegation and all sub delegations if necessary and when required.
  • • Assigned logistics assistant will coordinate and collaborate all the logistics operations in ET Addis Ababa delegation and all sub delegations if necessary and when required.

Relationships

  • • Assigned logistics assistant internally, interacts with members of the local logistics team and logistics customers which are assistance departments and others. And should develop a good working relationship and addressing all the requests properly and professionally.
  • • Assigned logistics assistant, externally, interacts with service-providers and low-level local authorities with the support of his/her direct supervisor when required.

Reporting / Statistics

  • • Issues report concerning logistics operations and activities, updates and follow up weekly MoM.
  • • Provides information and data for compilation of the monthly statistics
  • • Maintains adequate filling and archives
  • • Ensures that back up of electronic files are done on a regular basis

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • • Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments
  • • Is aware of the delegation’s objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contacts relevant to the position
  • • Collects and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses
  • • Represents the ICRC in an appropriate way during activities, in meetings and in the field, and avoids any activity that may reflect negatively on the ICRC’s image
  • • Takes responsibility for their own professional learning and development


Job Requirements:

Certifications / Education required:

  • • A bachelor degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management or similar fields from recognized University.
  • • Additional Office management/administrative skills are an asset.
  • • Very good command (spoken and written) of English and the local working language.
  • • Computer literacy (Word, excel and others), mandatory
  • • 3rd grade driving license, (preferable).

Professional Experience required:

  • • Minimum two years' experience in a similar field and position.
  • • Detailed knowledge of the local area
  • • Experience in humanitarian organization is an asset
  • • Good knowledge of Office management/administrative skills
  • • High organizational skills are required
  • • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • • Knowledge on local logistics set up and nature are required.
