Job Description:

1. About Andinet

Andinet Ethiopian Domestic Workers Union (AEDWU) or in its Amharic name Andinet Yeethiopia Yebet Serategoch Hibret has been legally registered on December 31, 2019, by 10 DWs CSOs. It envisions seeing Domestic Workers free from modern slavery by 2030. Its mission is to create a decent working environment for domestic workers by organizing, providing effective representation, skillful negotiation, aggressive advocacy, and working the professionalization of domestic work as a respectful and productive profession. The Union was established to alleviate domestic servitude and end modern slavery in Ethiopia.

2. Function of the Job

We are seeking trustworthy candidates who work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy. Accountants can expect to work with large amounts of numerical data, handle multiple tasks with deadlines, and provide transparent and complete reports to management. You should have a firm grasp of accounting and financial practices and regulations and possess strong computer and verbal and written communication skills. The post holder will be assigned to the five-month project entitled “Promoting Policy Dialogues and Civil Society Action to reduce DWs servitude through Human Right based approach-HR4DW” project which is part of the Civil Society Support Programme Phase Two (CSSP2) with flexible to do other organizational tasks.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compile financial requirements for Action plans and prepare reports for relevant parties such as Government, the Union, and Donors.
  • Complying with all the Union, local, and federal accounting and financial regulations.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and reporting financial data.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Prepare payroll documents.
  • Collect payments whether in cash or credit
  • Manage all accounting transactions.
  • Prepare budget forecasts.
  • Publish financial statements on time.
  • Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
  • Control petty flows of cash.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
  • Prepare procurement analysis sheet.
  • Ensure timely bank payments.
  • Compute taxes and prepare tax returns.
  • Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements.
  • Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity.
  • Audit financial transactions and documents.
  • Prepare all financial documents for auditing and future use.
  • Manage the store and assets of the organization including inventory management.
  • Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary.
  • Comply with financial policies and regulations.
  • Assisting management in the decision-making process by preparing budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:

  •   Diploma / BA / in Accounting and Financing
  • Work experience as an Accountant of at least three (3) years’ or one (1) year of relevant experience in management roles for Diploma and BA holders respectively. 
  •  Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills.
  • Understanding of mathematics and accounting and financial processes
  • Understanding of Peachtree software.
  • Competent in using computers, operating Excel, and other systems.
  • Good knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with general ledger and trial balance functions.
  • Good knowledge of English and Amharic.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive and professional attitude, able to organize and prioritize work under pressure.
  • Able to do multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Believes domestic work is a professional job like other jobs.

5. Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  •  Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations, and university financial policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications.
  • Knowledge of standard and/or fund accounting principles, methods, and applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and/or projections.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Account balancing and reconciling skills.
  • Ability to set up and maintain financial accounts and ledgers.
  • Working knowledge of financial software tools to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, statements, and/or projections.
