Job Description:

I.  JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of the Light Vehicle Driver position is to provide driving services to authorized passengers and goods. She/he takes care of the passengers, the property in his/her custody and ensures that the vehicle is insured and properly maintained. She/he also reports accidents immediately to the supervisor. 

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Job Responsibility #1: Provide Transport Services: % of Time:  70%      

  • Provide transport service to CARE staff and visitors as instructed during working hours or out of working hours as may be required;
  • Transports CARE staff and guests to and from the field and in Addis Ababa as assigned. 

Job Responsibility #2:  Support Services: % of Time:  10%

  • Meets and assists visitors/staff on arrival and departure as required;
  • Assists in the distribution of mails to and from the Project when assigned;
  • Assists in collecting mails to and from the post office, DHL, etc.

Job Responsibility #2:  Vehicle Care and Safety: % of Time:  10%     

  • Takes responsibility for the safety of the vehicle assigned, tools and accessories;
  • Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and usable at all times;
  • Checks oil, fuel, water, tires, brakes and other electrical systems before starting driving the car;
  • Follows up maintenance need of the vehicle and promptly reports back to immediate supervisor;
  • Makes sure that he/she drives with in the speed limits set by CARE and according to traffic regulations;
  • Makes sure to wear seat belt and always asks and make sure that his/her passengers wear seat belt;
  • Ensures validity of his/her driving license.

Job Responsibility #4:  Reporting: % of Time:  5%

  • Reports accidents timely to his/her supervisor; 
  • Maintains the daily vehicle log by legibly recording in English at all trip times, mileage and destinations.

Job Responsibility #5:  Perform other duties as assigned: % of Time:  5%

Job Requirements:

V.  QUALIFICATIONS (KNOW HOW)

A) EDUCATION/TRAINING

Required:

  • Completion of 10th Grade and 3rd grade driving license. 

Desired:

  • Completion of 12th Grade and 3rd grade driving license.

B) EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 3 – 5 years experience in passengers driving.

Desired:

  • Defensive driving and auto mechanic background

C) Technical Skills

Required:

  • Good spoken English;
  • Trustworthy and reliable;
  • Valid driving license and good driving record;
  • Physical fitness and willingness to work under pressure, possible long working hours and frequent field travel;
  • Basic mechanical skill to be able to do small repairs if necessary;
  • Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality and sensitivity to HIV/AIDS.

Desired:

  • Skill in Off-road driving skills.

D) COMPETENCIES

VI. CONTACTS/KEY RELATIONS

The Driver will have working relation with Transport Supervisor, mechanic, authorized passengers and guests in order to provide driving services and maintain the health of the vehicle.

VII. WORKING CONDITIONS AND LEVEL OF TRAVEL REQUIRED. 

The Light Vehicle Driver is based in Metu.
