  2. Position Description:

Senior Driver/Mechanic will be responsible to help make operations and programs of the TNS Ethiopia more efficient and productive by supporting program staff in their work. 

III. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Run errands on behalf of staff (ie procurement, getting quotes, supplier meetings, deliveries, meetings/communications with stakeholders)
  • Help the Admin Officer to find ways to reduce the cost of staff and transport operations and increase the impact of other staff
  • Identify improvements in efficiency and organization of the overall driver team that reduce cost, risk or increase impact of colleagues
  • Under the Administrative Officer’s supervision, execute the responsibilities assigned to the Administrative Officer in the TNS Vehicle policy including:
    • Managing the fleet management system and any tracking hardware & software
    • Training staff in policy and spot-checking compliance
    • Ensuring proper handover of vehicles and qualification of employees to use TNS vehicles, per the policy
  • Mentor and develop junior drivers
  • To carefully drive the TNS’s vehicles on request with respect to driving regulations.
  • To check the daily/weekly mission/duties schedule of the office, to prepare the needs and to report on all noticed changes on vehicles.
  • Follow-up the maintenance, insurance and road license of the TNS Ethiopia vehicle fleet.
  • Follow up the quality of works performed during services/repairs on any of TNS Ethiopia vehicles.
  • To carry out any other duties that may reasonably or exceptionally be required to ensure the smooth operation of TNS’s work, such as substituting for absent colleagues, etc
  • Ensure that the vehicles daily log sheets are filled correctly prior to departure and after every trip, make sure that vehicle movement authorization is obtained from the relevant person for every movement
  • Tally monthly vehicle fuel consumption report, repair and services reports etc.
  • Ensure that the vehicle’s tools and spare wheel are kept in the vehicle and in good order at all times in accordance to TNS policy.
  • Ensure that Techno Serve’s vehicles are not used for personal business
  • Demonstrates transparency and accountability in all areas of work
  • Provide clerical support including banking or messenger services and any other roles as assigned by supervisor

Mechanical duties

  • Monitor maintenance standards provided by contracted workshops
  • Assess the technical condition of vehicles for rehabilitation and propose the required cost for management decision
  • Conduct market survey and analysis for an alternative maintenance and spare part suppliers
  • Advice in the selection and management of workshops and suppliers for vehicles, motorbikes, generators, spare parts
  • regularly check the status of vehicle, motorbikes, and generators to ensure that their safety and cleanliness is kept to the expected standard, log books are recorded, and regular services are done
  • Advice the logistics officer/ Admin team in the development of annual review systems for workshop mechanics, vehicle and spare parts purchase standard specification, selection and contractual management of workshops
  • conduct pre and post services as well as pre and post Insurance cover maintenance and repair works and certify vouchers, if any, for payments
  • check and certify the conditions of all motor vehicles before they went for annual inspection and registration
  • Perform other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
  1. Grade 10 complete + 6 years relevant experience, diploma in Auto Mechanics + 5 years related experience and 3rd-grade driving license required
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • High level of organization and efficiency
  • Clear and concise communication skills
  • Computer skills (emails, scanning, word processing and accounting)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once for different individuals in the office
  • Results focused and aware of the different challenges faced by individuals
  • Culturally aware and able to speak English and Amharic fluently.
