Organizational Context and Scope

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office, under the technical guidance of the Project Manager (WASH and Shelter), and under the direct supervision of the WASH National Officer, the Project Clerk-Shelter/NFI will be responsible for supporting implementation of IOM’s SNFI operational activities, including the following duties below:

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

 

1.      Support Shelter/NFI project implementation through field deployment to directly undertake Shelter / NFI distributions, and supervise construction works.

2.      Support in coordinating the logistical needs of the Shelter/NFI program implementation including arranging material transportation, tracking material receipt, Placing storages, and delivery preparations at sites and distribution locations.

3.      Carry out independent beneficiary registration and verification prior to distributions.

4.      Support in recruiting, coordinating and monitoring laborers at field sites.

5.      Assist in needs assessment of disaster affected community whenever needed.

6.      Support in distribution of tokens for identified beneficiaries based on needs assessment, notifying beneficiaries in advance to the distribution, set up distribution points, and crowd controls with security measures.

7.      Support in coordination of other Shelter/NFI activities including community mobilization and sensitizations.

8.      Produce daily/weekly reports, progress reports and related updates.

Job Requirements:

Education

·        Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in engineering, urban planning, architecture, or any related technical field

Experience

·        Two years of relevant experience for Degree holders and Four years for Diploma holders

·        Experience in shelter/NFI program interventions

  • Strong writing and reporting skills,
  • Familiarity in working with International Organizations, UN agencies or diplomatic missions is an asset,
  • Good understanding of humanitarian principles
  • Good computer knowledge in MS office packages.
  • Ability to work independently according to established structures and guidelines, including administrative requirements, and maintain coordination with colleagues and supervisor

 

Languages

·       Fluency in English and Tigrigna (oral and written).

·       Knowledge of Amharic language is an advantage.

Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
