CARITAS Switzerland (CACH) has been working in Ethiopia for more than 45 years. Currently CACH cooperates with four partners in Ethiopia. CACH has successfully been registered as an International Non-Government Organization in Ethiopia and has therefore become operational at project implementation level. CACH’s main working fields are: Climate, Income, Migration as well as Humanitarian Aid Responses. CACH current working areas are in Oromia, SNNPR, Amhara and Tigray. CACH supports and implements currently about ten projects in these regions. 

Summary of Duties

Facilitate overall organizational activities at grass-root level such as facilitation of project activities, under the mandate of CACH’s project Improved livelihoods of coffee and honey/bee by-product producers within conserved landscapes, community mobilization, beneficiary registration, reporting, facilitation of capacity building activities, honey/be development cooperatives, support income generation groups and facilitate community sessions, Livelihood, market development interventions and follow up of activities at grass root levels and ensuring delivery of planned activities with beneficiary communities as per the project plan and time frame.

Main Role and Responsibility of this position.

  • Facilitate and coordinate overall project implementation at Woreda level
  • Work with the project team, partners and government counterparts to achieve the project outputs/outcomes at his/her specific clusterEnsure adequate consultation and participation of Woreda and village/community level stakeholders ensuring active participation of women and youth
  • Facilitate identification of training needs, Coordinate and deliver training, business plan
  • development and other services to Cooperatives, CBOs and unions
  • Provide expertise and advice for community institutions on gender mainstreaming in project scheme
  • Provide direct community support in partnership with government stakeholders
  • Conduct other duties as may be assigned by the Project Coordinator
  • Ensure conducive working environment and enabling team spirit in the field
  • Ensure implementation of capacity building plans in close collaboration with the stake holders

With a specific focus on beekeeping development related activities

    • Closely accompany and capacitate community-based beekeeping entrepreneurs
    • Assist the organization of all beekeeping related activities at field level
    • Collaborate with other relevant beekeeping development actors such as external advisors, research centers and implement their technical advice at field level together with the beekeeping entrepreneurs and beekeeping community more broadly
    • Assist the PM and PFC in improving Beekeeping Cooperatives’ management
    • Assist Beekeeping Cooperatives in implementing honey and bees-wax processing processes
    • Assist all elements around Honey Collection Centers such as infrastructural improvements, monitoring and supervision of infrastructural works, etc.
    • Along with community-based beekeeping entrepreneurs, capacitate Woreda level beekeeping extension workers.

    Duty station: will be in Delomena, Bale zone, CACH field office. The candidate must be ready to be based in Delomena and frequent field trips to project sites.

    Job Requirements:

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate represents the majority of the below mentioned areas:

    • Experience in the field with other organizations in Beekeeping, honey/bee products and promotion of cooperatives livelihood and food security in rural areas of Bale zone Oromia region.
    • Trained on community facilitation/PRA approach.
    • Knowledge of the intervention area and project implementation.
    • Organizing communities, participatory approaching, problem resolving capacity and reporting skills
    • Based at Kebele level and daily monitor the project intervention.

    Education

    • University Degree or Diploma in Agricultural economics, social science, Animal science, Veterinary Science, Plant Science, General agriculture, Rural development, Environmental health, Development studies, or similar studies.
    • Complementary training in community approaching and knowing local context is a plus.

    Experience

    • At least 2 years of experience in Agriculture, Animal science, Plant Science and Food Security and Livelihood in an NGO field of experiences.
    • Proven experience in field-based community facilitation skills, NRM, inputs distribution, agricultural practices, technology transfer interventions is a plus

    Skill

      • Able to ride Motor bike a driving license is mandatory or able to provide shortly.
      • Able to use kobo tools and other software. 

      Language

      • Full command of the Local working language (Afan Oromo) and English is Mandatory
