Job Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Social Marketing and Communications lead is responsible for the development and supervision of all social marketing and communications strategies of the program to ensure that the awareness about clubfoot is raised amongst target populations and increasing proportion of children born with clubfoot access early treatment. This individual will oversee the development of goals, strategies, and implementation plans to execute comprehensive social marketing and sensitization approaches and campaigns. The incumbent, working with the clinical supervisors and counseling coordinators, will promote the creation, enhancement and development of programs to promote early detection of clubfoot and its services. The Social Marketing and Communications Lead will also oversee the launch and managing of new sensitizations and social marketing strategies, and associated activities to meet program`s goals and targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Community Sensitization and Awareness(70%)

  • Develop effective sensitization strategies and annual plans targeting specific audiences and target groups that need to become aware of clubfoot, and availability of treatment at Hope Walks clinics.
  • Lead the sensitization activities of the program per the approved annual plan and budget, in collaboration with the Clinical Supervisors and Counseling Coordinators.
  • Develop community sensitization and awareness strategies in line with the program goals and targets.
  • Implementation of social mobilization approaches in order to increase community engagements on the clubfoot early identification and early care.
  • Manage Early Identification and Referral trainings and sensitization conferences carried out by the Clinical Supervisors and others.
  • Develop clubfoot Social Behavior Communication Change (SBBC) and Social Marketing (SM)
  • SBCC and SM materials in collaboration with other partners.
  • Develop sensitization strategies in collaboration with CD and other members of the team.
  • Develop and implement Clubfoot Advocacy materials and kits in collaboration with FMOH and the PM
  • Travel to 10 regions and two city administration to conduct and implement community sensitization and social mobilization. 

Social Marketing and Communications (20%)

  • Reflect, articulate, and promote the mission, vision and identity of HOPE WALKS-ET.
  • Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of a comprehensive social marketing and communications program that will enhance the HOPE WALKS-ET image and position within the marketplace and the general public, and facilitate internal and external communications.
  • Manage the strategic and creative design of HOPE WALKS-ET social marketing and communications activities and materials including:
    • Newsletters and annual book
    • Website, Social Media, video production,
    • HOPE WALKS-ET Online
    • Institutional Advancement
    • Media Relations
  • Manage the Communication officer – currently consisting in charge of patient’s stories and photography projects.
  • Ensure articulation of HOPE WALKS-ET’s desired image and position, assure consistent communication of image and position throughout the national program and its reach, and assure communication of image and position to all Program teams, both internal and external. Uphold protocol to ensure a uniform “house style” (uniform fonts, logos, pictures).
  • Coordinate media interest in the program and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.
  • Coordinate the appearance of all National Program print and electronic materials such as sensitization materials like brochures, etc.
  • Develop, coordinate and oversee programs, technical assistance and resource materials to assist various departments in the community sensitization, communications and positioning of their activities.
  • Ensure that the National Program regularly conducts relevant market/sensitization research and coordinate and oversee this activity. Monitor trends.
  • Leads special projects as assigned, such as special events,
  • Fund raise campaign communications plan.

Planning and Budgeting(5 %)

  • Responsible for the achievement of social marketing and communications mission, goals and objectives. Ensure that evaluation systems, including benchmarks, are in place related to these goals and objectives and report progress to the Program Manager and HOPE Walks US marketing and Communication specialist.
  • Develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing and communications program and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance in collaboration with the national team.
  • Recommend short- and long-term National Program goals and objectives to the Country Director.
  • Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to the smooth operation of the marketing and communications function.
  • Keep informed of developments in the fields of social marketing and communications, and not-for-profit management and governance, and the specific business of the National Program and use this information to help the institution operate with initiative and innovation.

Organizational Strategy(5%)

  • Provide support to the Country Director and HOPE Walks US marketing and Communication specialist in public affairs matters and social marketing and writing activities.
  • Work with various staff and volunteers to develop and maintain a strategic perspective -- based on marketplace and constituent needs and satisfaction -- in organizational direction, program and services, decision-making; and ensure the overall health and vitality of the National Program.
  • Help make sure that the HOPE WALKS-ET’s mission and vision are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization.
  • Develop and coordinate means to seek regular input from the National Program’s key Program teams regarding the quality of programs and services and the institution’s relevance.
  • Help formulate and administer policies to ensure the integrity of the National Program.

Reports to: HW Ethiopia Program Manager

Supervises:  Communication officer (Contracted staff)

Frequency of Travel: Approx. 50%

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Understands, appreciates, and articulates the mission of HOPE WALKS-ET; and has a desire and ability to work collaboratively with varied Program teams, including vice presidents, department chairs, faculty staff and students.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and three years’ experience in the design and execution of marketing and communications activities.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal communication and marketing skills.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets, and training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel.
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications, website management, and social media content creation and management.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, MS Office product and other general-purpose tools (Acrobat, FTP, multiple Internet browsers, etc.)
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to blend attractive design and high functionality in all sensitization tasks.
  • Must be able to receive constructive criticism well.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly while managing numerous projects simultaneously.

Other

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in social marketing, Health communications or social mobilization with demonstrated success, preferably in the not-for-profit sector of Health.
  • Bachelor’s or master degree in journalism, marketing, business and/or Social mobilizations preferred. Graduate degree in a related field is desirable.
  • Experience working with volunteers is desirable.
  • Be willing to take advantage of professional learning opportunities that will increase her or his knowledge and skill base.
  • Photography and videography certification are desirable.
  • Fluent in oral and written English
  • Ability to travel by car and spend days on the field
