National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN) 2.0 is an extension of the NIPN 1.0 which is an initiative of the European Union (EU) supported by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. NIPN 2.0 is a joint action funded by the European Union and GIZ. The initiative aims to strengthen national capacity to manage and analyze information and data from all sectors which have an influence on nutrition and to disseminate and use the information so as to better inform the strategic decisions countries are faced with to prevent undernutrition and its consequences. The German agency for international cooperation (GIZ) is funding the next phase (NIPN 2.0) to ensure sustainability of National Information Platform for Nutrition in Ethiopia beyond its project period. The project is being implemented by EPHI, in partnership with GIZ and in collaboration with International food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). A Global Support Facility (GSF) has been set up by GIZ to coordinate the NIPN 2.0 initiative, managed by the Capacity of Nutrition and Knowledge for Nutrition Programme (K4N), in Brussels, Belgium. The GSF will provide support to the NIPN team in Ethiopia throughout the project implementation.  

Main duties and responsibilities: 

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is seeking a Content Editor to work on the NIPN project and other institutional activities. The Content Editor will be responsible for the design and implementation of the communication, scientific output and visibility plan for the NIPN, for the production of communication tools about the project and for helping to communicate the analytical outputs of the NIPN. It coordinates the organizations of public events (webinars, seminars, workshops, trainings and conferences) related to the NIPN.  

Detailed description of duties and responsibilities: 

The Content Editor is responsible for developing and implementing the project communication and visibility plan and for branding and promoting the work of the NIPN. 

Working closely with the Project coordinator, Project Director, Public Relation office of EPHI with the Senior Policy Advisor and other team members,

S/he designs communication materials to translate NIPN findings into key messages for policy makers in different formats (reports, policy briefs, videos, press releases...) to meet the needs of various audiences (politicians, technical experts, district officials, the general public). 

S/he disseminates these communication materials through the best channels to reach their targets in the most appropriate format. 

S/he liaises with service providers such as editors, graphic designers, printers, etc., to produce communication tools and project documents. 

S/he keeps the NIPN web pages up-to-date.

S/he manages the communications events organized by the NIPN teams to ensure that they are given a 

high profile in the country, when necessary.

S/he prepares briefings for the press about the findings of the NIPN analysis and organize press conferences, if required.

S/he provide on job training and capacity building packages for Public Relation Office staff members in EPHI.

S/he shall deliver any assignment given by Project coordinator, Project director, Public Relation Office Head and Senior Policy Advisor.

She/he is expected to accomplish any given tasks that will be given by the officials at the institute.



Job Requirements:

A M.A. degree and above in journalism or communications or language/Linguistics or any related field (with work experience). Or PhD degree in communication or language/ Linguistics or any related field (with work experience). 

Excellent writing skills in Amharic and English;

Experience of writing about complex technical matters in simple and clear language, driven by the need for comprehension; 

Ability to work in a team and to establish or engage with communications networks;

Excellent organizational skills, rigorous attention to detail and an ability to work autonomously;

An ability to work in a stressful environment and to meet strict deadlines;

A good knowledge of the most common software used in the design of communication materials;

A good knowledge of software to prepare presentations.

Examples of documents written should be provided with the application.

Knowledge on social media (Tweeter, Facebook, Instagram) and managing website for organizational purpose will give a plus advantage.
