Out Grower Agronomist

Position purpose

As an outgrower agronomist you implement and follow up plans of the outgrower circle, related to all agricultural aspects of the production of fruits, vegetables and vegetable seeds at smallholder in order to meet the production plan. You excel in the English language and master computer and administrative tasks.

Major Accountabilities

• Technical support to smallholder farmers in agricultural practices, crop management and crop protection on sugar snap, snow pea, avocado and hand pollinated seed crops
• Provide trainings to farmers
• Assist with implementation of global gap and internal inspection
• Assist with the implementation of social certification
• Carry out crop scouting activities in out grower farmers
• Ensure out-grower farmers to produce the required crop according to the production plan (yield, timing, cost)
• Ensure out-grower farmers produce the required crop according to the quality specifications
• Manage and distribute inputs to smallholder farmers
• Implementing sustainable production techniques with smallholder farmers
• Making accurate harvest forecasts
• Manage logistics of harvested produce from smallholder farmers to pack House
• Yearly assessment of newly planted avocado trees
• Timely control and data recording of specific agricultural tasks and parameters, i.e. sowing, number of transplanting,

 Working conditions

• Willingness to work at smallholder farmers plots in the open field at Koga irrigation project area
• Field environment including heat, dust and outdoor climate

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

•  BSc degree in Horticulture or related field
•  1-3 years of work experience with fruit and vegetables in commercial farms or in smallholder farms
• Experience on sugar snap, snow pea, avocado and hand-pollinated seed crops are a major advantage
• Good computer skills (experience in MS office)
• Knowledge of Global G.A.P is an advantage
• Strong communication skills and sufficient level of both Amharic and English language
