Job Description:

Main Purpose of Role

Operational Readiness Manager Main Purpose of Role Responsible for coordinating and managing various critical operational readiness activities, including leading operational readiness projects, commissioning plans in liaison with the commissioning teams and providing expert operational readiness advice and guidelines to stakeholders to ensure requirements are known, managed, and coordinated to support the development of TKGM

Key Performance Areas 

  • Management of critical operational readiness requirements, commissioning milestones and activities to facilitate the development of TKGM. 
  • Provide expert operational readiness support and manage critical interfaces with key business stakeholders for program/project scope definition, design, commissioning, operator acceptance, and training.
  • Manage and facilitate programs and operational readiness exercises to support stakeholders to prepare to operate and maintain the new assets and capabilities being delivered.
  • Provide operational readiness expertise, guidance and direction to ensure the operational readiness program/projects are achieved on time and to budget.
  • Track performance of operational readiness against defined milestones and report on progress, risks, resolution and escalation of issues through governance channels where needed.
  • Implement the deployment of standard project management systems, procedures and tools across the organization.
  • Execute safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities consistent with TKGM's management system requirements as defined in TKGM's safety policies and procedures and plan

Location : Addis Ababa with frequent travel to Tulu Kapi Mine Site

Job Requirements:
  • Minimum Required Qualification
  • Qualified Mining Engineer/Metallurgist
  • Master in related field, MBA or the successful completion of a Management Development Program will be an advantage 

Language requirements

  • English speaking and writing
  • Amharic speaking and writing will be an advantage 
  • Afaan Oromo speaking and writing will be an advantag

Minimum Required Work Experience

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience on Africa based operations of which 5 years must cover experience as an Operations Manager, more senior or equal.
  • Management of a mine planning team and operational readiness planning team.
  • Management of the full value chain within a mining environment.
  • Experience in the startup of a mine from construction phase to production phase.
  • Project experience across green and brownfield projects.
  • Excellent MS Office skills including Excel, Word, MS Project, Outlook.

Specific Skills Required 

  • Operational readiness planning.
  • Proven knowledge of various mining and processing methods.
  • Mining contract management.
  • Mine planning which includes short term mine planning as well as long term.
  • Strong proven leadership managing a team of professionals to deliver high quality outcomes in a dynamic and sometimes sensitive environment.
  • Proven experience leading people through change Experience in fostering a constructive and customer focused team culture which is agile and resilient.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Effective liaison and negotiation skills in potentially complex and highly emotive situations.
  • Excellent working knowledge of best practice in operational readiness theory and practice.
