Course Description:

The Executive Master’s Degree (MA) in Managing Peace and Security in Africa (MPSA) offers experienced professionals working on African peace and security issues a unique opportunity to acquire certified and in-depth training while working in their respective organizations. Course Requirements:

Academic requirements:

  • Applicants must hold BA, BS or Post-graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • English Language Proficiency and Certification:

1. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

2. Alternatively, an official letter from an academic institution certifying that English language was the medium of instruction and that the applicant has sufficient English language proficiency to participate in the programme.

3. If the applicant cannot provide proof of English proficiency as in  (1 or 2), s/he will be required to take an English proficiency test at Addis Ababa University [if admitted].

Non-academic Requirements:

The applicant must preferably:

Be a citizen of a member state of the African Union or an international applicant working for a governmental, inter- governmental or multilateral agency with a keen interest in African peace and security issues;

  • Have at least five years’ work experience in peace, security and development, democracy, governance, peace and security or related field;
  • Have excellent command of English language which is the medium of instruction.
  • The Selection Committee will also take into account the following factors:
    • Applicant’s past and current job, position/responsibilities; including perceived professional impact applicant is likely to have on their organization after completion of the executive Master’s programme;
    • Diversity (gender, regional balance – REC’s and Regional Mechanisms) in order to draw participants from all parts of the continent;
    • Applicant’s personal qualities: leadership, strong motivation to enhance one’s professional abilities, originality, sound academic credentials.

Upon acceptance, all candidates shall be required to follow the under-listed procedures to authenticate their degrees and certificates.

Participant’s registration to the programme is contingent upon the receipt of their authenticated transcript and certificate.
