The Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following position.

LOCATION: DIHR project office, Addis Ababa

REPORT TO: Responsible Project Manager in Copenhagen

DURATION: One-year contract, renewable dependent on performance. Starting 1 September 2021 or as soon as possible

SALARY RANGE: To be negotiated and guided by the qualification of the candidate and instructed by levels in similar positions in like-minded non- Ethiopian organisations

Purpose of the job:

The Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) is engaged in a partnership with Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) in the project ‘Empowering Ethiopian Human Rights Commission 2020- 2024.’ The project is supported by several donors in a basket fund structure. A project team consisting of the responsible project manager, a project economist/finance officer and a project officer operate from DIHR Copenhagen. To complement, a project team is set up in Addis Ababa consisting of a project advisor, a project manager and a project economist/finance officer. The Project Manager will act as a link between DIHR Copenhagen, DIHR’s project office in Addis Ababa and the partner, EHRC, on project management matters. This includes project management matters with a particular focus on detailed planning, preparations, implementation and follow up in the project as well as activity follow up on progress, monitoring and reporting. A second main area of responsibility is facilitation of the project structures.

The position is subject to confirmation of the expected grant.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cooperate and coordinate especially with the responsible PM in Copenhagen on tasks described below and ad hoc tasks when needed.
  • Prepare meetings in the two top project structure levels, including preparing meeting documents and agendas, organising the meetings, minute taking, etc., as well as being instrumental in systematic follow up.
  • Prepare, circulate invitations and follow up on the monthly PM team meetings.
  • In cooperation with the partner and project advisor, develop draft annual action plans in the project and circulate to relevant colleagues for feedback.
  • Compile and finalise the external interim project activity reporting and the annual reporting on the result framework, involving collection of data on indicators.
  • Develop internal monthly DIHR reports on the project progress, including the human rights and the security situation and other relevant developments in the country.
  • Ensure that tasks are carried out by the project office in Addis Ababa according to plans and make adjustments in the electronic platform when relevant.
  • Prepare first drafts of contracts when new donors commit funds to the project and when
  • DIHR’s partner contracting needs adjustments, renewal, etc.
  • Collaborate with the partner and project economists in cases of local/international contracting of larger assignments.
  • Provide assistance to the responsible PM in Copenhagen on employment contracting of local project staff.
  • Engage with partner’s PM team and assist the partner in delivering the required project outputs such as budget, action plan and reporting.
  • Provide capacity development and advising to the partner in creating a professional PM systems and procedures meeting the international standards.
  • Ensure coordination and cooperation with the regional hub and contribute to regional initiatives when necessary in consultation with the PM in Copenhagen and the Regional hub representative.
Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BA/MA Degree in Human Rights, Political Science, or related fields.
  • 5-10 years of experience in the field of human rights for BA and 5 years of experience in the field of human rights for MA.
  • Strong organisation and project management skills is essential.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic (spoken and written).
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, including an ability to work in politically sensitive contexts
