Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child should grows up with love, respect and security.

Your role....

As a MERA Coordinator, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Support the project/program planning process by gathering or updating, and analyzing planning inputs 
  • Provide technical support for programs in the proper implementation of Results-Based Management in general and the application of the RBM processes, tools and formats in particular.
  • Ensure programs and donor funded projects have Monitoring & Evaluation framework and support its implementation
  • Provide support to programs in the process of identifying, developing and standardizing indicators used to measure program/project results
  • Support the identification, documentation and sharing of Monitoring & Evaluation lessons and good practices and its use for quality program development and implementation.
  • Initiate, coordinate and support the Monitoring & Evaluation capacity building efforts of the MA for internal staffs as well as partners
  • Initiate, coordinate and undertake joint and individual program monitoring activities at MA level to capture the data/information that feed into the management’s decisions.
  • Provide technical support for programs in the process of undertaking different studies (baseline, surveys, need assessment) and evaluations (mid-term, end line, and impact) by external consultant/s
  • Initiate, coordinate and/or undertake mid-term and end line evaluations for selected projects/programs using internal capacity 
  • Support the preparation of quarter and program progress reports at MA level
  • Ensure that child safeguarding and child protection are mainstreamed into all MERA frameworks through measurable output and outcome indicators;
  • Lead the process of piloting and scaling up local level beneficiary complaints’ mechanisms in relation to staff conduct, with an emphasis on the Child Protection Policy and measure to prevent sexual exploitation of children and young people.
  • Ensure that child, youth and beneficiary data are kept confidentially
  •  Support the programmes in defining and implementing the key project performance indicators (KPI) as well as monitoring them throughout the duration of the programmes/projects.
  • Draft tools and their revisions as well as data collection procedures (eg. logical framework, project performance tracking, indicators, data flow chart, M&E manuals)
  • Reviewing the performance of existing management information systems to help identify potential modifications or resources.
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned by the National M&E Manager.

The must haves:

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Sociology, Economics, Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, or other relevant field; 
  • Minimum 4 years of direct experience in coordinating and executing Monitoring and Evaluation activities for donor-funded programs.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with and understanding of qualitative and quantitative Monitoring & Evaluation methodologies that incorporate rigorous statistical methods, impact evaluation, participatory Monitoring and Evaluation techniques; and developing and implementing M&E plan and Results Framework.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing programs and projects
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Amharic;
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
