Internship Opportunity with Save the Children

ECSC-SUN coordination office, coalition members’ offices and regions

Our Organizational Background

The Ethiopia civil society coalition for the scaling-up nutrition (ECSC-SUN), part of global sun movement, is seeking to recruit three interns to assist in and be part of the ECSC-SUN nutrition leadership program activities and ECSC SUN regional support platform establishment, coordination and strengthening.  

The Ethiopian civil society coalition for the scaling up nutrition (ECSC-SUN) was established in June 2013 with 11 founding members and has now grown into a strong coalition of 63 member organizations, all committed to improving nutrition. The coalition has three administrative layers: General Assembly, steering committee and Core team. ECSC-SUN has finalized the preparatory activities to establish and strengthen ECSC-SUN regional support platform in Amhara and Tigray regions and further to scale up in other regions. Furthermore, under the nutrition leadership program, ECSC-SUN has allocated resources and has been providing support for strengthening nutrition leadership capacity at national and subnational levels. In addition, ECSC-SUN will support the establishment and strengthening of ECSC-SUN’s thematic focus working group initiatives to be implemented by the lead agencies that will further create opportunities to strengthen the coalition's engagement and advocacy work to push the nutrition agenda forward in all nutrition-sensitive and nutrition specific sectors across the country.

Objectives

·       To support the establishment, coordination and strengthening of ECSC-SUN regional support platforms in regions

·       To Strengthen the nutrition leadership capacity at national, regional and lower levels. 

Performance Period:

This is a four months’ internship placement program at national and in regions from December 1 2019 to March 31 2020.

Roles and responsibilities

 The Interns have two major responsibilities/tasks

 Support the Nutrition leadership program thematic initiatives

·       Assist capacity building of nutrition workforce through facilitation and organization of in-house and on the job training. 

·       Assist organization of different meetings and conferences with nutrition professionals and nutrition leaders.

·       Catalyse learning on nutrition leadership among government and non-government stakeholders through an exchange visit, learning review, etc.

·       Foster information sharing among nutrition leaders through facilitation of an exchange visit and review workshops.

·       In collaboration with other networks (e.g. ENLN), establish youth nutrition leaders to develop a skilled cadre of future nutrition leaders for the country.

·       Upkeep the Mentorship process to promote skill building in leadership, teamwork, communication, and nutrition technical topics.

·       Succour awareness creation activities to enhance commitment to nutrition among local level stakeholders including technical, political and community leaders, and implementing partners.

Support the ECSC-SUN regional support platform and thematic initiatives in regions

·       Be part of the ECSC-SUN core team in providing technical support for establishing and strengthening ECSC-SUN regional support platform in Amhara, Tigray and other regions,

·       Be part of the ECSC-SUN core team in providing technical assistance to partners and ECSC-SUN member agencies prepare a work plan and budget alignment and ensure its execution.

·       Work closely with partners and regional government counterparts to strengthen the regional and sub-regional nutrition coordination system (RNCB, RTNC, ZNCB, ZNTC, WNTC, WNCB and kebele steering committees)

·       Be part of the ECSC-SUN core team in providing support for partners, member agencies and government to strengthen effective nutrition system strengthening in both nutrition-specific and sensitive intervention.

·       Be part of the ECSC-SUN core team in providing technical advice for regional ECSC-SUN steering committee.

·       Be part of the ECSC-SUN core team in supporting partners and core team in mapping of ECSC-SUN members for different thematic areas. 

·       Deployed to the ECSC-SUN member agencies and regions to support the above initiatives.

Specific deliverable

·       Nutrition leadership network and TWG strengthened and sustained   

·       Nutrition leadership technical working group data base developed

·       Lower level nutrition leadership capacity improved

·       Functional ECSC-SUN regional and lower levels coordination platform established and strengthened through supporting coalition members and partners.

Job Requirements:

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

Qualifications

·       B.Sc. degree in Nutrition and other related areas with zero year of experience in the field of nutrition advocacy, nutrition leadership and capacity building.

·       Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

·       Must be 18 years of age and above

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Self-directed and able to work with minimum supervision

·       Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas

·       Knowledge of nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive policies, strategies, programs and initiatives is required.
